Waukesha Post Office Announcement & Instructions Below

A message from the Waukesha Post Office:

April 8, 2009

Dear Business Customer:

Like every business, the Postal Service regularly reviews operations and makes adjustments when necessary. Adjusting our operations to match our changing workload will help us increase efficiency, reduce operating costs and keep the cost of mailing a letter affordable for all Americans. After a recent reevaluation of our mailbox collection process, collection times throughout Waukesha have been changed to 12:00 noon. What this means for your business is that any mail deposited in a collection box after 12:00 noon must have the next day's date on it. You may however, deposit your outgoing mail with the current date on it at the Waukesha Post Office up until 5:00pm.

Our customers evaluate the speed of mail by looking at the date in the postmark, meter impression or online mailing date. For this reason, it is imperative that these dates accurately reflect the date the mail is deposited in the mailstream. In addition, we have published service standards that we try to meet consistently in moving mail through our network. If the meter postmark is not the date of deposit, this has a significant bearing on our service accomplishments and subjects the Postal Service to unjust criticism for alleged mail delays.

The Postal Service issues meter licenses to business mailers who comply with our mailing requirements. Among these is the requirement that the meter postmark reflect the actual date of deposit. Identified mail that is misdated presents a problem, and the Postal Service notifies first offenders and then cancels their letters with the proper date. Should it happen a second time, the misdated mail is returned to the sender for rehandling.

Effective Thursday, April 16, 2009 all mail deposited in a blue collection box without the correct mailing date will be returned to your office for rehandling.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey M. Hanson

Postmaster
